Côt is the local name for Malbec, another red grape that makes excellent red wines in other areas, but which is used primarily for blending earthy red wines in the Loire Valley.

Loire Valley wines set the international standard for Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc. Loire Valley Pinot Noir, Malbec and Gamay are also excellent. And Melon de Bourgonge (Muscadet) Grolleau and Pineu d’Aunis are grown nowhere else.
