The vineyards of the Centre Loire are located in the very heart of France.
Grapes have been grown here for at least 2,000 years. King Dagobert gave land
grants to local monasteries, in the 7th century, which included vineyards. As
early as 1365, the Duc de Berry promulgated a charter that codified the wine
trade in the region and set guidelines to maintain quality.
The Centre Loire produces some of the most famous wines of the Loire, including Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé, as well as other, similar wines, such as Quincy, Reuilly and Menetou-Salon, that deserve to be better known.
