Friday Fact
Today is the official launch of our Friday Fact series. From now on, every Friday we’ll be posting a little-known (or, perhaps, a little more well-known!) fact about the Loire Valley – and then delving deeper to give you some more information about this diverse wine-producing region.
So, to kick us off, here’s today’s fact:
The Loire Valley is a big producer of rosé wines in varying styles. Some are dry, some are fruity and some have notes of earth and spice, but all are refreshing and make excellent summer wines.
Ah, a perfect kick-off for a holiday weekend! As you’re warming up your grills for some Fourth of July barbecuing this holiday weekend, don’t forget to add a few bottles of rosé to your shopping list, specifically Rosé d’Anjou!
Many appellations within the Loire make rosé style wines. A slightly sweet style rosé, such as Rosé d’Anjou, is the perfect pairing for grilling. The hint of sweetness balances the spiciness in barbecue sauces. The wine is best served chilled, and is a crisp and refreshing lift on a hot summer’s day. Other off-dry rosés from the Loire to look for are Cabernet d’Anjou, Cabernet d’Saumur, Rosé de Loire and Touraine Azay-le-Rideau.
So, whether you’re cooking up burgers, chicken or anything else, you can’t go wrong with Rosé d’Anjou or another off-dry Loire Valley rosé as an accompaniment in your glass this Independence Day weekend. Happy Fourth of July!
